Welcome to the UC Berkeley DNA Sequencing Facility’s Terms of Service webpage. 

The UC Berkeley DNA Sequencing Facility (“Facility”, “We”, “Our”, or “Us”) is here to provide our Customers (“You”, “Your”, “Users”) with DNA sequencing services to support scientific research and discovery. By accessing or using our services, You agree to the following terms and conditions, which apply to any/all Customers (including, but not limited to, students, staff, scientists, researchers, academic institutions, and commercial users of the Facility’s services).

1. Use of Services.  UC Berkeley DNA Sequencing Facility services are intended for academic, research, and scientific purposes only. You agree to provide accurate and complete information when submitting samples and data for processing. By using our services, you confirm that the submitted materials comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards. UC Berkeley reserves the right to refuse or suspend services if any violation of these terms or unlawful activity is suspected. 

2. Data Ownership and Privacy.  You retain ownership of the data you submit, but grant the University of California and The Facility a limited license to process and analyze Your samples solely for the purpose of providing the requested sequencing services. We take Your privacy seriously and will handle Your data in accordance with Our Privacy Policy. However, You acknowledge that any data shared with third-party collaborators or external services (intentionally or unintentionally) may not be fully protected by these terms. 

3. Limitation of Liability.  The Facility makes no guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, or fitness of the sequencing results for any particular purpose. We strive to provide high-quality services, but We do not assume responsibility for any loss, damages, or research delays arising from the use of our services. Users are responsible for verifying and interpreting the sequencing data in the context of their own research and experiments. 

4. Refunds.  The Facility does not offer refunds for services rendered. We, at our own discretion, will do Our very best to correct any errors in any service provided to Customers. It is Our policy to not charge Customers when our Facility is the source of any mistake made in Our services. However, once a charge is processed internally at the University, We do not offer any refunds for services rendered. 

5. Returns.  The Facility does Our very best to provide quality products and services at very reasonable rates/prices. Once products have left our facility, We have no way of ensuring continued quality of any given product and therefore cannot offer an exchange or refund on any product. However, if You have purchased products and wish to return them to Us free of charge, the Facility will typically accept the items, assuming they are not modified, hazardous, toxic, or dangerous. 

By using Our services and/or purchasing Our products You agree to these terms and acknowledge that You are fully authorized to act on Your own behalf, as well as on behalf of Your institution or organization.
